The Runaround – 10/15/12

What’s impressive about a 2:46 marathon? It’s an average of about 6:20 per mile. Pretty quick.

What could make a 2:46 marathon even more impressive. Ask Keith Levasseur of Glen Burnie, Md. He clocked a 2:46:58 effort at the Baltimore Marathon…in flip flops! In fact, it was the official World Record for fastest marathon ever run in flip flops.

What would possess him to do this? How did he train for this? Did he get injured in the process? And most pressing of all: Will he do this again?

Tune in to Greg and Ryan’s conversation with Keith in the replay of last night’s The Runaround. Charm City natives both, Greg and Ryan also talk about the highs and lows of the Baltimore Marathon and recap the Kona World Triathlon Championships.

The Runaround – 10/8/2012

What were the highlights of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon? Course record shattered and a big PR from an American seeking to establish himself as one of the best marathoners in the world.

And…another men’s track team is on the chopping block??

First University of Maryland, then Millersville University, now the University of Richmond. Hear from Richmond distance runners Andrew Valenski, Matthew Groff and Assistant Coach Jon Molz as they share how they plan on battling an untimely demise. Former Richmond standout Andrew Benford, who, along with Matt Llano, led the Spiders to their first NCAA berth in 2010, talked to us about what the alumni are doing to fight the cuts.

What’s so interesting about the situation at Richmond?

The school is proposing to cut men’s track and field AND soccer to CREATE a lacrosse team at the varsity level.
